In Their Own Words
Gerald Hutchins
Phuket, retired 2022
"I came to the information session not knowing quite what to expect. I left with a folder of printed notes and a lot less confusion than I'd arrived with. The format suited me well — small group, unhurried, and the questions people asked were almost always the same ones I'd been thinking about anyway."

Sandra Whitmore
Kata Beach, seasonal records client
"Having David come by each quarter to go through our documents has meant I actually know what's current and what isn't. Last year he spotted that one of our insurance policies was approaching renewal months before I would have noticed. Worth every baht of the annual fee."

Brian Templeton
Patong, document gathering client
"I had twenty years of paperwork in no particular order. David worked through it with me systematically, and by the end of the session everything was labelled and in a proper folder with a checklist at the front. It took about two and a half hours. The process was easier than I'd expected — he kept things moving without rushing."

Anne Llewellyn
Phuket Town, information session
"Margaret explains things clearly without being patronising, which isn't always easy. I've been to other information evenings about retirement and they almost always end with someone trying to sell you something. That didn't happen here. Straightforward information, good printed notes, and no follow-up sales calls."

Philip Darvell
Rawai, seasonal records client
"I started with a document gathering session and then moved on to the seasonal records service. Two years in, I haven't missed a single renewal date. The quarterly visits are efficient — usually about an hour — and I always know what needs attention before the next one. Calm, professional, and well worth having."

Caroline Murray
Chalong, information session & documents
"I did the information session first and then booked a document gathering session a month later. Having done both, I felt noticeably more prepared for a meeting I had with my pension provider. Silvergrove doesn't give you the professional advice — they make sure you arrive knowing enough to get value from those who do."

Three Longer Stories
Information Session
"I finally understood what questions I should be asking"
The Starting Point
Robert had been putting off thinking seriously about retirement for two years. He knew he had a pension from a previous employer but wasn't clear on what it was actually worth or when he could access it. He felt uncomfortable asking financial advisers questions he suspected were "too basic."
What Happened
He attended one of the monthly information sessions. During the Q&A, several other attendees asked variations of the same question he'd been embarrassed to raise. He took the printed notes home and, using them as a reference, booked a call with his pension provider the following week.
Where He Ended Up
The call with his pension provider went well because he knew what to ask. He said the session hadn't given him all the answers — but it had given him the vocabulary and the confidence to have the conversation properly. He's booked to attend a second session covering different ground next month.
Document Gathering + Seasonal Records
"Three boxes turned into one folder I can actually use"
The Starting Point
Eleanor had lived in Thailand for eleven years. Her documents were spread across three boxes, two digital folders, and one drawer she described as "the difficult one." She knew something important would eventually need finding at short notice, and the thought of it made her uneasy.
What Happened
The document gathering session took around three hours and worked through the full checklist. Everything relevant was sorted into a labelled folder with a printed index. Several documents emerged that Eleanor hadn't seen in years. Two items were flagged as missing and worth tracking down.
Where She Ended Up
Eleanor moved onto the seasonal records service the following quarter. She says the folder has already been needed twice in genuine situations — once during a visa renewal and once when dealing with an insurance claim. Both times she found the right document immediately. "That's not nothing," she said.
